2014 – 23 August – Melissa Cameron WORKSHOP: One design. Three materials. 30+ individual jewels

2 HOUR WORKSHOP: One design – Saturday 23rd August 2014. 10am-12noon

In conjunction with Melissa Cameron’s new collection at Studio 20/17, and as part of the Sydney Design program is a workshop that issues Cameron’s design challenge. How many different objects can you create from one pattern?

A DIY workshop group get together with this collaborative challenge set: make at least 10 fresh pieces of work from Cameron’s same laser cut design.

The workshop will be run by Jennifer Fahey. The class will take place in the gallery space, to ensure that the new works do not duplicate any of the pieces already in the gallery. The only allowable additions to the palette are silk thread and a set of artist-made brooch pins, though sanding and similar surface treatments to the timber will be allowed. The two main stipulations are the same for these artisans as they were for Melissa; all of the elements of the pattern must be used, and the works must all be wearable. The workshop is open for ages 10 and up.

The new works will be displayed (attributed to their makers) in the gallery alongside the metal pieces until the end of the exhibition, at which point each of the workshop participants are welcome to take their unique piece home.

Suitable for ages 10+. No prior jewellery experience required. Cost $55.
