Correspondence used for the artwork ‘Many Hands: A year of exchanges and stories’
BK: Hi Chris, Happy New Year. Am so pleased that you’d like to be a part of my art project, ‘a year of time’. You chose to exchange time for your basket ‘165:4950’. I’ve attached a pic of it for you .This comes to a total of 2hrs and 45 minutes. I recall that you have website experience. I’m not sure in detail what that means, or how technical your knowledge is. But maybe you could come in and do a few updates on my website for me. Or give me advice on how to improve the SEO rankings? Or help me with social media? Or maybe you have something else in mind? I’m open to ideas. I’ll be away from 23rd Jan until 8th Feb so we’ll have to tee up something for a time after that. Before we commence the exchange, I just want to check that you’re ok with me taking a couple of photographs to document the process. It will be of hands only. I’ll also be documenting any text or email communications that may take place. This information will feed into a further development of the artwork. Are you ok with this? I’m looking forward to exchanging some time with you
C: Hi Bridget, Thanks for getting in touch. That sounds interesting. I do have some web experience, but it isn’t very technical. I did Szilvia’s new WordPress web site and I think it’s worked out ok. For her SEO I installed Yoast, but setting her up to use it is still on my to-do list. Looking at that for you would force me to get on top of it. And if I have till 8 Feb to come to grips with it a bit that should work out well. I can certainly get in there and do some updates, anyway. Let me know what you think. If you need to you can send me an email re timing after you get back. Regarding your documentation of the exchange, photos are fine, and I’m sure it would be ok to use text and email, if you could pass it by me first. Kind regards, Chris
BK: Hi Chris, That sounds good. I use the Genesis framework which has SEO built into it but happy to give yoast a go. I would need help with setting it up and inputting the seo data. I’ve done it on an ad-hoc basis so a lot of the pages don’t have SEO content setup. Here’s a link to what I use – https://wpsites.net/seo/genesis-seo-settings-guide/ I’ll go ahead and install the Yoast plugin. I’ve written my webstie myself (it’s a few years old now) and it has ok ranking (but I’m only guessing that) – but I think that’s just cos it’s been around for a while…..so it would be great to get some help. Would Saturday 17th February work for you to come in? sometime between 11-3pm? Look forward to hearing from you.
C: I’m afraid Saturday 17 Feb I have something on, but the week following that is all free, including the following Saturday. The SEO support on Genesis looks like a good starting point. As he says, Yoast is good because it provides direct assistance as you’re posting content (what he calls ‘on page’ SEO). They also provide free tutorials – https://yoast.com/academy/courses/ A few other places you can get some help with SEO are Hubspot, DuctTape, Practical Ecommerce and Amazon’s Alexa.com. One thing to bear in mind is that you are dealing with visual material and a lot of advice you get is around textual content. Yoast have a post about images here. Have fun!
BK: Great! Let’s lock in Sat 24th 11:30am… if that time works for you. I’ve installed Yoast and set it up….and found lots of failings with my SEO…..hahahahah!!!
C: See you on the 24th. Looking forward to it. Have fun finding your failings!
C: Ah – woops.. I just went to put it in the diary and found 24 Feb is the day of our wedding anniversary. 3 and 10 March are both free. 17 March is booked up but 24 March is free. Sorry about this.
BK: 3rd March, 11:30am it is!
Also, if podio is too complicated, there’s a more straightforward one called Asana – https://asana.com.
Only problem with it, but it might not be an issue, is its calendar integration is only once a day. Thanks for today. We are loving our little basket!
BK: Great, thanks!
