HELEN POYSER

Helen Poyser creates intricate, one of a kind pieces of jewellery from her studio in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney.  Painstakingly deconstructing pre-loved and vintage beadwork, necklaces and millinery supplies, she reassembles the individual components to produce elaborate and lively neckpieces, bangles and earrings.  Having grown up partly in the Middle East much of her work re-imagines tribal and in particular Bedouin aesthetics. She honed her technique initially in the construction of talisman like sculptures which she has been working on since 2007. Her neckpieces represent a morphing of these talismans into wearable art; each piece feels as if it were imbibed with a shamanic potency of its own.
