2013 – Maker.Wearer.Matchmaker – a JMGA-NSW initiative supported by Studio 20/17 – 03/14

MAKER.WEARER.MATCHMAKER

During the month of March, the directors of nine galleries at 2 Danks Street will be wearing contemporary art jewels created specifically for them by selected contemporary jewellers.

Jewellery artists will be invited to submit a proposal of 2/3 jewellery items responding to the gallery directors or the art in the galleries at 2 danks. The directors will then participate in a matchmaking session, viewing the submissions and selecting work/artists they respond to. The artists will then make a series of work for the directors to wear in their galleries from 1st – 23rd March 2013.

The project will endeavour to create an aspect of community and conversation and to challenge boundaries of contemporary jewellery, whilst increasing its profile within the contemporary art environment.

The object of this project is to explore community aspects of jewellery.  The aim is to collect and document the experience of the wearers and viewers over the timeframe and feed that information back to the makers.  The hope is to create unique relationships between makers, wearers and viewers and open up new ways of thinking for all parties.

The project culminates in a 3 day exhibition at Studio 20/17, 2 Danks Street, from 26th – 28th March where all the art jewellery will be displayed together. Celebration drinks on Thursday 28th, 6-8pm will provide the opportunity for the public to meet the artists involved in the project and discuss the ideas behind the work.
