‘Perennial Moments’ – Saori Kita
18th – 29th September 2012
CELEBRATION DRINKS Saturday 22nd September 2012 – 4-6pm
where the artist will be present to discuss her work.
Perennial Moments is Saori Kita’s first solo exhibition. These intriguing and beautiful rings and brooches are made by using rough cut gemstones and traditional casting techniques. Saori’s work echoes in metal, the natural forms found in the Japanese aesthetic of Ikebana and bonsai. The use of naturally occurring forms such as buds and seedpods, as well as the small imperfections caused by bugs and weather erosion, act as intimate settings for her stones. She is interested in preserving the power of the natural object.
Saori says of her jewellery, ‘I make my work with an awareness of Chowa, which means mind, heart and hands in Japanese. Finding balance between beauty and imperfection, I work very intuitively and often let the materials guide me.’
The exhibition, presented as a recorded development of her work, shown from earliest piece through to the last piece made, is a timeline of process and development and reflects her interest in the passing of time and seasons.
